Computer Education
Program
Computer courses, offered in the Computer Lab
which is located in McHenry Township Senior Center, 3519 N. Richmond Road, consist of either three 2-hour or two 3-hour sessions.
There is a $5 registration fee for each
session. Call Amy Zavala, Senior Center Activities Director at 815-344-3555 to register for a class.
Students should have access to a computer to practice skills learned. The courses offered include:
Basic Computer: Introduction to the computer is for someone with little or no knowledge of a computer. This course will cover basic computer terminology, identification of primary hardware and software and basic computer function.

Basic Windows: An intermediate course teaches additional technology and "how to"s of Windows that is necessary for advanced classes and covers Windows Explorer, Word Pad, Paint, Help and Search/Find.
Prerequisite: Basic Computer Class or equivalent basic computer experience. Instructor: Bill Lapp
Introduction to Word Processing: Introduction to Microsoft Word teaches how to create, edit, format, save and print documents plus basic formatting skills.
Prerequisite: Basic Windows or equivalent experience.

Intermediate Word: The next step in Microsoft Word teaches concepts and skills to improve your proficiency such as formatting, adding graphic elements to documents, style and page settings.
Prerequisite: Intro to Word or equivalent Word experience.

Spreadsheet Basics: A review of the fundamentals of spreadsheets and basic formulas applicable to Excel, Calc and Google supported spreadsheets.
Prerequisite: Basic Windows or equivalent experience.

Internet: How to use the internet:: how to sign on and surf the World Wide Web and how to read, write, send and organize your e-mail messages.
Prerequisite: Basic Windows or equivalent experience.

Digital Camera: Learn how to transfer and print photos from your digital camera. Must have a digital camera.

Poster/Flyer Design: Learn how to design posters and flyers for your club, church, organization or a family reunion.
Prerequisite: Basic Windows or equivalent experience.

Making Calendars & Greeting Cards: Produce unique calendars using your photos and your family’s special dates. Create personalized greeting cards in your own words and with your photos. Must have digital camera.
Prerequisite: Basic Windows or equivalent experience.

Address Book: Have all your friends and family names, addresses, birthdays and anniversaries in one easy to use format. Take this course in conjunction with the Greeting Card class and learn how to print your card envelopes.

On-line Genealogy Workshop: Instruction in basic genealogy. Learn to setup a Pedigree Chart and how to use the census records and other sites to access information about your ancestors with the internet.
Prerequisite: Basic Windows or equivalent experience.

Basic Photo Enhancement & Scanning: This class instructs how to scan and use a graphics program to crop, resize and enhance photos. Bring a photograph to class.

Keeping Your Computer Secure:
Learn
about viruses, spam, adware, spyware, phishing, and firewalls.
This class will address the proper detection and steps to take
if your computer is being attacked.
